Big Lottery invests £25m to tackle first-time offending

Big Lottery Fund is the largest distributor of National Lottery money to good causes in the United Kingdom. Big Lottery Fund strives to improve communities throughout the UK by funding projects and programs that better the health and education of the United Kingdom.

An article was published in the UK’s Civil Society about Big Lottery Fund’s efforts to invest £25m into programs that strive to help UK youth avoid first-time offenses. BIG will fund 25 projects that help eight to fourteen-year old youth avoid criminal activity and anti-social behavior. BIG will utilize programs with proven results for the first time, which includes a prevention program from the United States.

The largest amount of funding was awarded to Barnardo’s, UK’s leading children’s charity, in the amount of  £1,572,639. Barnardo’s will implement the U.S. substance abuse prevention program mentioned above.
